Louisiana is one of the most important U.S. states in terms of aquaculture production. Growers produce crawfish, catfish, soft-shelled crabs, oysters, alligators, turtles, baitfish, and other products.
Louisiana is the largest producer of crawfish in the United States. Crawfish farmers grow red swamp crawfish (Procambarus clarkii ) and white river crawfish (Procambarus zonangulus), both of which are native to the state.
