Conch traps (pots) are used for catching conch (channeled whelk and knobbed whelk) along the Atlantic Coast of North America.
Conch traps are constructed from a variety of materials including traditional wooden slats, plywood, wire, and plastic.
Most traps feature open top designs with sides and bottom made of wood or other materials. Some designs include a rim along the top edge.
Conch traps are baited with horseshoe crabs or other baits. Conchs, which are attracted to the bait, crawl up the sides and into the trap where they usually remain.
